Recent intelligence indicated that a pangolin was being held by three individuals in Mapai District, who were actively seeking potential buyers.

In response, an operation was conducted in Petule locality, Gaza Province, resulting in the seizure of a juvenile pangolin and the arrest of the three suspect linked to environmental crime.

The detained individuals, residents of Chissie in Mapai District, were intercepted while in possession of the animal, confirming suspicions of illegal wildlife trafficking.

During questioning, on of the suspects stated that the pangolin had been captured in Banhine National Park, allegedly following a request from an unidentified individual. This points to a broader network involved in the illegal trade of protected species.

Following the seizure, the juvenile pangolin was transferred to Karingani Game Reserve, where it was handed over to the relevant authorities for rehabilitation and eventual release back into its natural habitat.

This operation reinforces the importance of rapid response and intelligence-led enforcement in protecting vulnerable species and disrupting illegal wildlife trade at the local level.
