On February 11, 2025, authorities in Machanga District, Sofala Province, intercepted two traffickers found in possession of a bag containing pangolin scales. According to the suspects, they had captured the pangolins in the C5 area while they were out hunting. The bag contained a total of 8 kg of pangolin scales.
Pangolins are among the most trafficked animals in the world, and their scales are highly sought after for use in traditional medicine and luxury products. This illegal trade poses a serious threat to pangolin populations and contributes to the decline of these endangered animals.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident to gather more information and ensure that those involved in wildlife trafficking are held accountable for their actions.
