On February 20, 2026, authorities arrested a suspect in Mungari Administrative Post, Guro District, Manica Province. The individual, originally from Chemba and residing in the Chigodzi neighborhood, was caught in possession of approximately five kilograms of pangolin scales.

The scales are believed to have originated from a pangolin that was illegally hunted. During preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to killing the animal inside Official Coutada No. 13, stating that his intention was to sell the scales.

Pangolins are among the most trafficked mammals in the world, and the possession or trade of their scales is strictly prohibited under Mozambican law.

Following the arrest, the suspect was transferred to the Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Guro, where he remains in custody while legal proceedings move forward.
